Lake Lure Tours runs guided boat tours including the filming locations with commentary. Even if you’ve seen the film a hundred times, seeing the actual dock and water is a different experience. Available in season.
Chimney Rock State Park
The 315-foot granite monolith five minutes from the lake. Elevator access through the rock leads to the summit with views down the gorge. Check ncparks.gov for current hours — the elevator closes in bad weather.
Lake Lure Flowering Bridge
A former vehicle bridge across the Broad River converted into a pedestrian garden bridge — over 150 varieties of flowers and plants maintained entirely by volunteers. One of the more charming small-town transformations in the South.
Kayak or Paddleboard
The lake is calm, clear, and surrounded by granite cliffs and mountain forest. Kayak and paddleboard rentals available at the town beach area in season. Best in the morning hours before powerboats are out.
