But Cape May, New Jersey is not New York City. Cape May to Manhattan is another 2.5–3 hours by car up the Garden State Parkway, or a combination of NJ Transit buses that takes even longer. The ferry is a great option if you’re road-tripping up the Jersey Shore or want a scenic crossing of Delaware Bay. It is not a shortcut to New York.

The chain is: get yourself from Rehoboth to Wilmington by bus, taxi, or someone dropping you off — which is about 90 minutes — then take Amtrak from Wilmington to Penn Station, which runs frequently and takes about 1.5–2 hours on the Northeast Regional or Acela.
Total trip time including the connection: 4–5 hours on a good day, more if your Wilmington connection doesn’t work out. The BestBus direct service is simpler and often faster.
